Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Olungu ("we", "us", "our") operates the website olungu.com and the Olungu browser extension. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information, including how our Managed, BYOK, and Local Models / Ollama AI modes and Local and Cloud Sync storage choices affect data handling.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

  • Account information: When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture.
  • Browsing and classification inputs: To classify pages in Managed mode, Olungu may process page metadata such as the URL, title, and limited page context needed to make a block, allow, or challenge decision. In BYOK and Local Models / Ollama modes, information related to the webpages you visit is not sent to the Olungu API.
  • Settings and synced configuration: The settings you save in Olungu, such as allow and block rules, focus preferences, goals, AI mode, storage mode, and related configuration.
  • BYOK and local model configuration: If you use Bring Your Own Key (BYOK), your provider API key is stored locally in the browser extension and is not sent to our servers. If you use Local Models / Ollama, the extension uses your local model endpoint and model selection to call the model on your device.
  • Focus session data: Session durations, block counts, goal progress, streak data, and other metrics required to provide focus analytics. If you choose Local storage, block analytics are not stored by Olungu.
  • Payment information: Payments are processed by our third-party payment provider. We do not store your credit card details.
  • Internal analytics and monitoring: We collect limited website and product usage analytics, such as page views, install and auth funnel events, checkout and support events, plus metadata-only extension telemetry used to improve reliability and product quality. Extension telemetry intentionally excludes raw URLs, domains, search queries, and focus text.
  • Support communications: If you contact us, we use the information you include in your message so we can respond.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and maintain the Olungu service
  • To save and sync your settings and related account configuration across devices when you sign in and enable Cloud Sync
  • To generate focus analytics and productivity insights
  • To enforce plan limits, including daily AI classification caps on the free tier and expanded analytics on paid plans
  • To measure website and product usage, diagnose issues, and improve the service
  • To process payments, manage subscriptions, and confirm Lifetime Deal (LTD) or Lifetime access
  • To communicate service updates and important notices

4. Browsing Data and Classification

Olungu classifies pages to decide whether a page should be allowed, challenged, or blocked based on your setup. The data path depends on your selected AI mode.

  • Managed: Olungu may process page metadata such as the URL, title, and limited page context through our servers and AI providers to make the classification.
  • BYOK: Classification requests use the provider and API key you configure. Your BYOK API key remains local to the extension, information related to the webpages you visit is not sent to the Olungu API, and provider usage is governed by your provider's terms.
  • Local Models / Ollama: Classification requests are sent to the local model endpoint configured on your device. Information related to the webpages you visit is not sent to the Olungu API, and Olungu does not receive those AI classification prompts or responses.

We do not store browsing data except for what is saved in your settings or what is required to provide focus analytics in non-local storage modes. When you use BYOK or Local Models / Ollama with Local storage, Olungu stores only the login/session and entitlement records needed to operate your account and access. We do not sell your data.

5. Sharing and Third-Party Services

We do not sell personal data. We share information only with service providers that help us run Olungu.

  • Google OAuth: Used for authentication. We only access basic profile information.
  • Payment processor: Handles all payment transactions securely. We do not have access to your full payment details.
  • PostHog: Used for internal website and product analytics, telemetry, and monitoring. Privacy Policy
  • Cloudflare: Used for site infrastructure, performance, security, and internal website analytics. Privacy Policy
  • Affiliate partners: We may use affiliate cookies to identify which users were referred by our affiliates. We may also share a user's email address with the relevant affiliate solely to identify and verify referrals.
  • AI providers: In Managed mode, we use providers such as Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, and OpenAI to classify websites using metadata. In BYOK mode, your extension calls the provider you configure with your locally stored key. Local Models / Ollama mode uses your local model endpoint instead of our AI providers. The prompts we send in Managed mode are not intended to include account information. Gemini Privacy, Claude Privacy and OpenAI Privacy.

6. Data Storage & Security

Your settings and preferences are stored in the extension. If you choose Local storage, Olungu product data stays in that browser, server sync is disabled, and Olungu does not store analytics related to blocks. If you use BYOK or Local Models / Ollama with Local storage, the only Olungu server records tied to your account are login/session and entitlement records needed to operate your account and access. If you choose Cloud Sync, eligible settings and product data may be synced across your signed-in browsers via our servers. BYOK API keys stay local and are not included in Cloud Sync. Focus analytics needed to power the product may be stored on our systems depending on your plan and storage choice. We use reasonable security measures, including encryption in transit and other safeguards designed to protect stored data.

7. Data Retention

We retain account information for as long as your account is active. Local-only data remains in your browser unless you delete it, uninstall the extension, or clear browser storage. We retain synced settings, entitlement records such as LTD access, and focus analytics only as long as needed to operate the service and provide the features available on your plan.

8. Your Rights

You may contact us at support@olungu.com to request deletion of your account data or to ask about the personal data associated with your account, subject to applicable law and legal obligations.

9. Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. We also use affiliate cookies to identify which users are referred by our affiliates. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

10. Children's Privacy

Olungu is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
